Privacy Policy

Version 2026-08-19 · Effective August 19, 2026

This policy explains what information pre collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. We wrote it the way we would want to read it: plainly. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@presocial.app and we will explain it.

1. Who we are

pre is a social app for planning what’s next and staying close to your people. It is operated by pre and available at presocial.app and through our mobile apps. When this policy says “pre”, “we”, “us”, or “our”, it means the operator of the pre service. pre is operated from British Columbia, Canada.

The person responsible for privacy at pre can be reached at support@presocial.app; use that address for access and correction requests, questions about this policy, and complaints. For people in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, pre is the controller of the personal information described in this policy.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways: you give it to us, we collect it when you use pre, and in limited cases we receive it from others.

  • Account information. Your name, username, email address, and, if you choose to add it, your date of birth and the city you live in.
  • Safety contacts. If you use the safety features, the name and phone number of each emergency contact you add. This is information about other people; we use it only to send the alerts you trigger and to show your contacts in the app.
  • Content you create. Posts, moments, messages, events, and any media you upload, including metadata that comes with it, such as captions, timestamps, and technical information embedded in photos and videos.
  • Usage information. How you interact with pre: the features you use, the time you spend, the content you view, and the actions you take, such as likes, replies, and searches.
  • Device information. Device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, IP address, and identifiers associated with your device or app installation (for example the token used to deliver push notifications and a random installation identifier).
  • Diagnostics. If the app hits an error, a short report (the error message and the screen it happened on) is sent to pre together with your product analytics so we can fix it. It follows the same analytics setting described below.
  • Location. The city you add to your profile is stored with its approximate coordinates. We collect precise location from your device only if you grant the app permission, and only to power features like finding events near you, placing an event you are creating, or including your location in a safety alert you trigger. You can revoke that permission at any time in your device settings. Place searches you type (for example an event address) are sent to OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service to find matching places.
  • Connections. Who you follow, the circles you belong to, and the events you RSVP to.
  • Music-service data. If you link a music service to pre, we receive listening history from that service so we can match you with people and events that fit your taste. You can unlink the service at any time.
  • Information from others. Other people may mention you, invite you to events or circles, or report your content to us. That gives us limited information about you even when you didn’t provide it yourself.

3. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide and improve pre. Run the service, keep it reliable, fix problems, and build new features.
  • Personalize your experience. Recommend people, events, and content we think you’ll care about, and order your feed in a way that’s useful to you.
  • Keep pre safe. Detect and act on content and behavior that violates our guidelines. We use a mix of automated systems and human review. Automated systems may screen content when it’s posted or sent.
  • Understand how pre is used. Analytics and research that help us understand what works and what doesn’t. Product analytics and error reports are associated with your account while you are signed in; you can turn them off in Settings.
  • Communicate with you. Service messages, security alerts, and, if you haven’t opted out, updates about features and events.
  • Advertising and marketing. Market pre and measure how well our marketing performs. In the future, we may show ads in pre that are selected based on your interests. If we do, we will update this policy and give you controls before interest-based ads appear.
  • Comply with the law. Meet legal obligations and respond to valid legal process.

4. How we share information

We don’t sell your information for money. We share it with:

  • Service providers. Vendors that help us run pre and may only use your information to provide services to us. These include Supabase (data hosting and storage), Stripe (ticket payments and organizer payouts), Apple (Sign in with Apple, Host Pass subscription billing, push notifications, and Wallet passes), Expo (push notification delivery), Vercel and Upstash (hosting, request logs, and abuse-rate limiting for our servers), OpenAI (automated content moderation of public posts and media, translation, and—in app versions that include the Pre assistant—server-backed Pre conversations), Microsoft (Azure Translator, a fallback translation provider), Twilio (delivery of the safety-alert text messages you ask us to send, which include your name and location), OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service (converting coordinates to place names for event locations), Resend (email delivery), and Spotify and Apple Music (when you choose to connect them).
  • Other users. What you share on pre is visible to other people according to your settings. Public posts are visible broadly; content shared with a circle is visible to that circle; messages are visible to their recipients.
  • Legal requests. Courts, law enforcement, and other authorities when we believe disclosure is required by law, or necessary to prevent serious harm.
  • Business transfers. If pre is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

A note for California residents. Some laws, including California’s, define “sale” and “sharing” of personal information broadly. Today we do not sell personal information, do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and do not work with advertising or measurement partners. If that ever changes, we will add an in-app “Do not sell or share” control before it takes effect. You can register an opt-out at any time by emailing support@presocial.app with the subject “Do not sell or share”, and we will honor it.

5. Your choices and rights

  • Access and correction. You can view and edit most of your account information directly in the app. For anything you can’t change yourself, email support@presocial.app.
  • Deletion. You can delete your account in the app: go to Settings, then Account, then Delete Account. Deletion removes your account and content, subject to the retention rules in section 7. You can also request deletion by emailing support@presocial.app from your account email.
  • Analytics. You can opt out of product analytics with the analytics toggle in Settings.
  • Marketing. You can opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any marketing message, or by emailing support@presocial.app. We will still send you service and security messages.
  • Permissions. Precise location, camera, photo library, notifications, and linked music services are all optional. pre never asks for access to your address book; emergency contacts are typed in by you. You can change or revoke these permissions in the app or in your device settings at any time.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, receive a portable copy of, correct, and erase your personal information, to restrict or object to some processing, and to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. Our legal bases are: performance of our contract with you (providing pre), our legitimate interests (keeping pre safe and secure, improving the service, and measuring our marketing), and your consent (optional features such as precise location, linked music services, and marketing communications). You can also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

If you are in Canada, you can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it, and you can withdraw consent for optional features at any time (subject to legal or contractual restrictions, which we will explain). Email support@presocial.app and we will respond within the time the law allows. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in British Columbia, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, to correct or delete it, to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. You can use an authorized agent to submit requests on your behalf. To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app controls or email support@presocial.app. We will verify your request using information associated with your account.

6. AI and intelligent features

Availability. The Pre assistant (“Pre AI”) and the on-device intelligence utilities described in this section are not included in the current version of the pre app. Nothing in this section happens unless your app version offers these features; when we make them available, we will update this policy first and the rules below will apply.

Some optional intelligence utilities can run locally on supported devices in app versions that include them. These may include automatic alt text, safety pre-checks before you post, and flyer scan, which turns a photo of an event flyer into an event draft. The local processing step does not send the content it reads to pre or OpenAI. If you then choose to post, send, or save the result, the content you submit reaches our servers like other content and the rest of this policy applies, including our server-side safety checks.

You choose how Pre AI runs. Cloud Pre, which is included with Host Pass, sends bounded text to OpenAI. On supported Apple devices, you can instead choose the more private on-device model, or turn Pre AI off. Changing from Cloud to on-device or off also withdraws your prior Cloud Pre permissions for private conversations.

When you invoke Cloud Pre or keep it active in a direct or group conversation, pre sends OpenAI a bounded amount of text needed to answer: participant display names, your request, and limited recent text context from that conversation. OpenAI also receives a pseudonymous safety identifier derived from the requesting account; this is not the account’s raw pre user ID. Every current participant must first agree for that conversation. The feature does not send the contents of photos, videos, audio, or other media attachments to OpenAI, and it does not send messages from unrelated conversations or former participants. Pre’s reply is stored in the conversation like other chat content so participants can see it. Anyone can revoke permission, and you can pause Pre in that conversation.

Requests to OpenAI use store: false, which means the response is not retained as OpenAI application state. OpenAI says API data is not used to train or improve its models unless the API customer opts in. Under OpenAI’s standard data controls, however, bounded prompt and response text may still be included in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days, or longer when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect people or services. This is separate from pre’s own retention. You can read OpenAI’s API data controls.

7. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your information within 30 days, and residual copies may persist in backups for up to 90 days before they are overwritten.

We keep some records longer when we have to: transaction records for tickets and payments where financial regulations require it, and records related to safety reports, guideline violations, or legal obligations where retention is necessary to protect people or comply with the law.

Product analytics events are disconnected from your account when you delete it and may be kept in that de-identified form for analysis.

Messages and generated Pre replies are retained as conversation content and follow the same account and chat controls. To prevent duplicate assistant requests, we may also retain operational records containing opaque message and conversation identifiers, status, and timestamps under the retention periods in this section. Those records do not contain prompts, message text, or model responses. OpenAI’s limited provider-side retention is described in section 6 and is governed by its API data controls.

8. Security

We protect your information with technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit, access controls that limit which staff can reach personal information, and monitoring for unusual activity. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we work to protect your information and to respond quickly if something goes wrong. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as required by law.

9. International transfers

pre is operated from British Columbia, Canada. Your information is stored and processed on servers in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate, and while it is there it may be accessible to those countries’ courts, law enforcement, and national-security authorities under their laws. When we transfer personal information out of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Children

pre is for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and we do not direct pre at children. Where local law sets a higher minimum age for using a service like pre without a parent’s or guardian’s consent (for example 14 in Quebec), that higher age applies. If we learn that an account belongs to someone below the minimum age, we delete the account and its information. If you believe an underage person is using pre, tell us at support@presocial.app and we will investigate.

11. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the version and effective date at the top. If a change is material, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and where the change meaningfully affects how we use your information, we will ask you to accept the updated policy before you continue using pre.

12. Contact

Questions, requests, or concerns about privacy at pre: email support@presocial.app. We read everything.
